As the major restoration of the Tyne Bridge is under way, we’ve been out asking people what this iconic structure means to them. For many it is a symbol of home, part of our North East identity, and that makes it all the more important to restore it to its former glory.

Derick

Meet Derick, who, along with his friend Graham, runs the Great North Run with a twist – carrying a 12-foot model of the Tyne Bridge! The Tyne Bridge is the centrepiece of this iconic race, the grand stage where everyone shines. Whether dressed in costumes or tackling unique challenges, each runner has a story, and Derick & Graham’s is one of heart and determination.

Meet Den, a proud member of the All Runs Club who's run every Great North Run since the beginning. It’s important to see this piece of history continue to be part of a race that captures hearts across the nation and beyond.
